Young Persons Concert
A competition in which talented young Cumbrian musicians will perform a programme of their own choice, of up to ten minutes, for the title of Lanercost Festival Young Musician of the Year. Cumberland Building Society Young Musician's Bursaries, in the amounts of £100, £50 and £25, will be awarded to the winners. Age limit, 19 years. Adjudicator, Michael Hancock. Helen Snowball will provide piano accompaniments if required.
11.00am - 12.30pm
14.30pm Showcase concert in which selected competitors will perform items chosen from their morning programme.

Chaconne Brass was formed in 1984, and have established a reputation as one of the most versatile ensembles in Britain today. Their repertoire spans from Praetorius to Steve Reich, from Gershwin to Miles Davis, from Acoustic to Electro-acoustic and from Brass to Beyond.... Chaconne Brass has an ever growing list of over 50 works written for them, a large part of which they have recorded.

The recital ends with a rousing piece of Dixieland jazz using a piece made popular by the James Bond movie scene at a New Orleans funeral.
Pat has frequently recorded for the BBC and has performed with the English Chamber Orchestra in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Barbican and St. John's, Smith Square. She is a frequent guest at the Edinburgh Festival and has performed in Israel, the Aix en Provence Festival, Norway, St. Petersburg and Brussels.
Carolyn is a young Irish mezzo-soprano with a growing reputation in opera and oratorio, who has appeared as a guest soloist and given recitals throughout the UK and Europe. She has performed at the Edinburgh Festival, the Barbican, and has broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 in Cosi fan Tutte with Sir Thomas Allen.
Colin's career as a soloist has included seasons with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, English and Scottish National Operas, and the Cologne Opera. He also has considerable concert and oratorio experience at leading UK and international venues.
Dean is a singer with a well-established international reputation. As well as solo roles with English, Welsh and Scottish Operas and The Royal Opera, he has worked extensively abroad, including at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. His concert performances include work with Sir Colin Davis, John Eliot Gardner and Kent Nagano.

11 year old Hamish has been a Chorister at Newcastle Cathedral since 2001. In May 2004, Hamish sang Pie Jesu for the Northern Sinfonia's performances of Fauré's Requiem at the SAGE Centre, and he was the treble soloist in the Maltese première of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem held in St John's Co-Cathedral. Hamish was also the soloist on Priory Records' Volume 20 recording of the complete New English Hymnal.
